The Keita family are back at it again. The Takeifa siblings, four brothers and one sister, have a new album called “Gass Giss“, which in “Wolof” means whoever searches will find. This latest production runs in the same vein as the two that came before. This album is a compilation of Afro*Rock styles and gives an optimistic vision of Africa. Indeed, it might even be seen as a vibrant advocacy for promoting a shinier image of the continent, the cradle of humanity.

This statement rings even truer because on this ten-track album, the Takeifa invite us to revisit their unique musical universe, one in which all the rhythms that have marked their rich journey come together and intertwine. Between Jac KEITA‘s sober fingerings, Cheikh Keita‘s surging guitar, Iba KEITA‘s syncopated, rumbling drums and Maah Khoudia KEITA‘s vibrating touch, the whole group really gels.

Since 2006, the Takeifa have pleasantly surprised us with their strong propensity for riding on these many sounds.

For a better understanding and comprehension of the band’s musical approach, Jac’s words put it best. “Our strength lies in the fact that we bring out the best in each of us”.

As a philosophy for this album, “Gass Guiss” invites «whoever looks hard enough to end up striking gold.” Another thinly veiled invitation to discovery and travel.
