The collective Rua Das Pretas<\/strong>, led by the Brazilian composer and guitarist Pierre Aderne<\/strong>\u2014a pioneer of contemporary and world music who has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Seu <\/strong>Jorge, Melody Gardot, Tito Paris, Sara Tavares and Madeleine Peyroux<\/strong>, will unveil the album \u201cPovo <\/strong>Brasileiro\u201d<\/strong> (Aderne\u2019s 12th album) which is due for release on 10 April 2026<\/strong> on CD and digitally via Harmonia \/ The Orchard<\/strong>. This album, along with the short film of the same name, will be presented on Tuesday 12 May 2026<\/strong> at 8.00 pm on the stage of the Studio de L’Ermitage<\/strong>, during a special launch concert.<\/p>\n

Povo Brasileiro<\/strong>, the new album accompanied by a short film by Pierre Aderne and the Rua Das Pretas <\/strong>collective<\/strong>, takes a key text (by Darcy Ribeiro<\/strong>) to explore what the Atlantic has wrought \u2013 peoples, languages, divisions, movements \u2013 without resorting to nostalgia. Povo Brasileiro<\/strong> transforms Darcy <\/strong>Ribeiro<\/strong>\u2019s classic into a sonic and narrative tapestry. Recorded at the Casa Museu Darcy Ribeiro<\/strong> (Maric\u00e1, Rio de Janeiro) \u2013 in the house designed by Niemeyer<\/strong> and inspired by Tupinamb\u00e1<\/strong> villages \u2013 the project brings together musicians from Brazil<\/strong>, Cape<\/strong> Verde<\/strong> and Portugal<\/strong>. A contemporary journey through Atlantic memories, where aesthetics serve a purpose: to articulate identity without freezing it, memory without turning it into a museum piece. The album stems from a political question, not from exoticism. Darcy <\/strong>Ribeiro<\/strong> conceives of Brazil as a country forged through violence, forced encounters, resistance and reconstruction. Pierre Aderne<\/strong> translates this tension into music: rather than \u201ctelling the story of Brazil\u201d, he brings the frictions to the fore \u2013 what the Atlantic has shattered and what it has created. Rua Das Pretas <\/strong>functions as a living cultural space: the Cape Verdean singer Zulu<\/strong> (Boa Vista), the Portuguese fado singer Ana Margarida Prado<\/strong>, the multi-instrumentalist Nilson Dourado<\/strong> (S\u00e3o Paulo \/ Sintra), the flautist Let\u00edcia <\/strong>Malvares<\/strong> (Rio \/ Madrid), and musicians from Cord\u00e3o do Boitat\u00e1<\/strong> (Kiko Horta and Carlinhos 7 cordas), amongst others. Here, styles do not merely adorn; they engage in dialogue. Samba, fado, Afro-Brazilian
\nmusic and song respond to one another like contradictory arguments, then weave themselves back together.<\/p>\n

Founded in Rio de Janeiro two decades ago, the project moved to Lisbon around fifteen years ago. Initially an intimate gathering, it has become a major hub of the Portuguese-speaking music scene, frequented by artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Ana Moura, Carminho, Tito Paris, Jos\u00e9 Eduardo Agualusa, <\/strong>Melody Gardot and Sara Tavares<\/strong>, amongst others. Tours in major venues across Portugal (Coliseu, CCB…) and a three-season music series on RTP1.<\/p>\n

\nBefore the creation of Rua das Pretas<\/strong>, Pierre Aderne<\/strong> was already a pioneer in contemporary and world music. Co-author of Mina Do Cond\u00f3mino<\/strong>, Seu Jorge\u2019s first hit, he has released an album with a cumulative 300 million streams and several tracks played on French radio, performed as a duet with Melody Gardot<\/strong>. His album Sunset in the Blue<\/strong> includes tracks such as It\u2019s Magnifique, From Paris With Love, If You Love <\/strong>Me and Um Beijo<\/strong>. He also undertook a summer tour of Japan in 2016, with concerts at Billboard Live in Tokyo and Osaka, at the Blue Note in Nagoya, as well as collaborations at L\u2019Olympia. Born in Toulouse (France), to a Brazilian mother and a Portuguese father; grew up between Rio de Janeiro
\nand Bras\u00edlia. 11 albums released, including Doces Cariocas<\/strong> (2009) \u2013 Best Album at the Pr\u00eamio de M\u00fasica Brasileira \u2014 Mapa dos Rios<\/strong> (with Moacyr Luz, 2023), and the albums Rua Das Pretas (Lisboa Edition, 2018; Um copo de fado, dois de bossa, 2021).<\/p>\n
