{"id":12349,"date":"2021-11-29T12:06:36","date_gmt":"2021-11-29T11:06:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/veevcom.com\/?p=12349"},"modified":"2021-11-29T12:30:02","modified_gmt":"2021-11-29T11:30:02","slug":"black-flower-presente-magma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/veevcom.com\/en\/black-flower-presente-magma\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Flower presents &#8220;Magma&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five-piece hybrid jazz outfit <strong>Black Flower<\/strong> are set to release new album \u2018<strong>Magma<\/strong>\u2019 on the <strong>28th January 2022<\/strong> via the groove-obsessed Belgian label, <strong>Sdban Ultra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Piloted by Brussels-based saxophonist\/flutist\/composer <strong>Nathan Daems<\/strong> (Echoes of Zoo, Dijf Sanders), the quintet is a vibrant, hypnotic mix of Ethio jazz, afrobeat, psychedelia and oriental influences, inspired by Mulatu Astatke, Fela Kuti and varied western musical traditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Black Flower<\/strong> is a band at the peak of their creative powers. Having received glowing praise for the 2019 album \u2018Future Flora\u2019 from Mojo, Songlines, BBC Radio 6 Music\u2019s Gilles Peterson, BBC Radio 3\u2019s Music Planet, Worldwide FM and Jazz FM among others, forthcoming album \u2018Magma\u2019 sees Black Flower embrace new synth and organ sounds from the band\u2019s most recent recruit, Karel Cuelenaere. His influence can be heard from the outset \u2013 his keys adding a swirling, mischievousness to album opener and title track \u2018Magma\u2019. Elsewhere, the shuffling drum patterns and flighty, flute-propelled \u2018O Fogo\u2019 are rich in texture and flow.<\/p>\n<p>Driving rhythms and Eastern influenced melodies serve as a rich source of pleasure that, like magma, become real and solid when finding its way to the surface. It\u2019s the perfect metaphor for this album\u2019s creational process. The pulsating, trance-inducing \u2018Deep Dive Down\u2019 continues the joyous process while singer-songwriter <strong>Meskerem Mees<\/strong> (winner of The Montreux Jazz Talent Award 2021) adds, her clear-as-spring-water vocals to the celestial \u2018Morning in the Jungle\u2019. With the much-trusted <strong>Frederik Segers<\/strong> on production and London-based visual virtuoso <strong>Raimund Wong<\/strong> (Total Refreshment Centre) on artwork duties, it all adds up to the psychedelic and exploratory identity of the band and are key elements that helped \u2018Magma\u2019 in its ascension from deep down up to the surface.
