Come closer: the warm and clear voice<br \/>\nof this young pathfinder invites everybody to assert their identity, in an astonishing Creole<br \/>\npoetry. Between pop and world-music, the musical arrangements by the pianist Herv\u00e9<br \/>\nCelcal, are not only a tribute to tradition but also a fountain of youth that perfectly serve<br \/>\nthis upcoming artist\u2019s philosophy.<br \/>\nWith this second album embedded in La R\u00e9union, Gwendoline delivers the fruit of her<br \/>\nown introspection: a world made of sounds, scents, wishes, consciousness and Creole.<br \/>\nShe will chant to our ear the desire to create a link, in a masterful introduction-immersion<br \/>\n(Binda). We will encounter a paradox, an awareness of the island\u2019s great vitality of<br \/>\ntraditions (Modernit\u00e9). A citrus-fruit with medical virtues will spread its virtuous sourness<br \/>\nthroughout the world reminding us that one should maintain a bond between generations<br \/>\n(Vangasay). We will furrow towards Cape Verde with a reverence to the profound Cesaria<br \/>\nEvora (La Diva de la morna). On our way, a soul-groove from La R\u00e9union will tell us about<br \/>\nhealthy love (Fo pa kwrar). And finally, like two waves that meet, Maloya will embrace<br \/>\nMartinique\u2019s B\u00e8l\u00e8 as a tribute to the \u201cmasters\u201d (B\u00e9liya)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vangasay: a cure to enlarge our imagination<\/strong><br \/>\nAbout a year ago, Gwendoline opens a French- Creole dictionary and comes across<br \/>\n\u201cvangassaye\u201d (vangasay in Creole) which designates some kind of citrus fruit, originally<br \/>\nfrom Vietnam and Madagascar. It is known to cure influenza, a sickness that com- pels our<br \/>\nbody to take a rest. Gwendoline sees it as a strong signal. It will become the title of her<br \/>\nsecond album.<br \/>\nGwendoline composed eight titles on the album and signed all the lyrics. Only<br \/>\n\u201cModernit\u00e9\u201d is from the guitarist Fabrice Legros. Herv\u00e9 Celcal [see boxed text] composed<\/p>\n<p>three titles (Filao, B\u00e9liya and La Diva de la morna). Gwendoline chose him to do the musi-<br \/>\ncal direction on Vangasay, after their meeting in June 2019, at La R\u00e9union. Herv\u00e9 listened<\/p>\n<p>to a lot of her musical universe (sometimes simple vocal memos), in order to fully<br \/>\nintegrate her personality. Five months later, he offered made-to-measure propositions.<br \/>\nThey all scored!<br \/>\nGwendoline says: \u201cI\u2019m a rooted singer that is un- rooted\u201d! Cape Verde calls, she goes for<br \/>\nit (La Diva de la morna, AKA). India inspires her quite instinctively (Vangasay, Paliaka). Her<br \/>\nvoice is undeniably soul and her groove refreshes the genre (Fo pa krwar). Jazz is heard in<br \/>\nthe placements, in the intonations. And yet she embodies perfectly the Maloya like the<br \/>\ngreat masters of her island would do (Binda, Filao, Moder- nit\u00e9, La Diva de la morna).<br \/>\nThe young singer takes it all and invites us to extend our imagination. This leads to twelve<br \/>\ntitles that float between acoustic arrangements, tributes to tradition (Binda, La Diva de la<br \/>\nmorna, Filao, B\u00e9liya, Moderni- t\u00e9&#8230;) and something that sounds more like pop-mu- sic<br \/>\n(Vangasay, Paliaka, Inveja, Fo pa kwrar, Ti fi la).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vangasay, singer Gwendoline Absalon\u2019s second album is above all an initiatory and vitalizing immersion into the island of La R\u00e9union.
