Electric Vocuhila presents “Kiteky”

Electric Vocuhila will unveil their new album "Kiteky" on its release on October 21, 2022 on Another Record / Capsul Records / L'Autre Distribution. This new work will be presented live on stage on Tuesday November 8, 2022 at Le Studio de L’Ermitage (Paris). Electric Vocuhila are : - Maxime Bobo: saxophone alto and composition - Arthur Delaleu: electric guitar - François Rosenfeld: electric and acoustic bass - Etienne Ziemniak: drums   For the past ten years, Electric Vocuhila has been developing a singular, powerful and voluble music, inspired by various contemporary African urban or ceremonial musics, combined with an orchestration and a relationship to improvisation rooted in (free) jazz, and a search for saturation of the sound coming from rock. This 4th album is dedicated to the tsapiky musicians met during a tour in Madagascar, just before the recording. The band was deeply marked by this trip, the concerts and the time spent with the Malagasy musicians. The song "Kiteky", which gives its name to the album and whose first video was released in 2021, has become a hit in Tuléar (Toliara, the cradle of tsapiky), covered by many tsapiky groups in « bal-poussière » ceremonies. This new version of Kiteky as well as the songs Kidola Dola (named by singers from Tulear), Swift and Arthur Never Sleeps have been reworked after the tour in Madagascar by assimilating modern tsapiky sounds and rhythms. Steeped in trance and celebration music, this new record also offers some quieter, more written pieces (duet and trio with acoustic bass and no drums on Toliara and Kasaï Charm), electronic sounds on Kin, and an exploration of rhythms inspired by East African music (Swift, 445), Congolese tradi-modern music (445), and music from southeastern Madagascar (Mangaliba), sometimes layering or juxtaposing them.

Berikely & Zama will unveil their new album "Elaela" on its digital release September 2, 2022 and physical release on September 30, 2022 on Abrazik / InOuïe Distribution. This new work will be presented live on stage on Wednesday October 5, 2022 at 360 Paris Music Factory (Paris). After a few years of absence, the singer Berikely, who has already made his reputation on the island of Madagascar with in particular the title “Tara Avion” returns with a new album entitled “Elaela”. Berikely & Zama are: - Berikely: voice, kabossy - Eric Doboka: guitar, back vocals - Samuel Ratovondrahery (Bema): percussions, back vocals - Thomas Boucherie: bass - Jean-Yves Boucherie: drums, back vocals   A mixed and authentic sound Berikely & Zama is a new Franco-Malagasy band made up of four musicians and singers gathered around Berikely, Malagasy songwriter, singer and player of kabossy, the emblematic guitar of Madagascar. It is the meeting of musicians with very different backgrounds but who have in common, the love of mixed music. It will take more than two years to forge an experience of Malagasy music which is not an easy approach for Westerners. This requires personal technical work and then band work. The band takes advantage of the stage to consolidate the music, the objective being the recording of an album. With Eric Doboka (Tue-Loup, March Mallow) on guitar, explorer of different musical universes. Thomas Boucherie (Ibrahima Koné), young bass virtuoso who forged his experience in African music. Bema Ratovondrahery (Mami Bastah), Malagasy percussionist who, through his perfect technique, links the two cultures, and Jean-Yves Boucherie, enriched by a long musical career in jazz and Latin music, provides a solid rhythmic foundation. The band offers a mixed and authentic musical color strongly influenced by traditional Malagasy rhythms.   A project born from two cultures encounter After a few years of absence, the singer Berikely, who has already made his reputation on the island of Madagascar with in particular the title “Tara Avion” returns with a new album entitled “Elaela”. An opus which proves that he is not yet ready to definitively put down his kabôssy, which is his favorite instrument. It is the meeting with Eric Doboka, artistic director of the project, which motivates his desire to mix his music which usually finds its foundations in a traditional style. Things happen naturally through the contribution of the culture and experience of each musician. The result is a music carried away by resolutely Malagasy melodies and texts, supported by an accompaniment with sometimes Western colors. The choice are based on an exclusively acoustic sound to approach the different styles of Malagasy music such as salegy, tsinjaka or banaiky. Also with some afro-beat influences. The songs are about adventure, nostalgia, love and humanity. It is also for Berikely the way to export his music by offering it to an international audience.

Radio Tutti & Barilla Sisters present “Queimadelos”

Sorry, this entry is only available in French. For the sake of viewer convenience, the content is shown below in the alternative language. You may click the link to switch the active language. » Amaury Ruillere

Sultana présente “Tierra Madre”

Sorry, this entry is only available in French. For the sake of viewer convenience, the content is shown below in the alternative language. You may click the link to switch the active language.

The Tambor Y Canto Company presents “La Segunda”

The Tambor Y Canto Company will unveil their new album « La Segunda » on its digital release May 27, 2022 and physical release on June 27, 2022 on Quart de Lune / UVM Distribution / Idol. This new work will be presented live on stage on Thursday June 9, 2022 at 360 Paris Music Factory (Paris). On the album "LA SEGUNDA", the Tambor y Canto Company blends jazz with the numerous kinds of traditional music from South America and the Caribbean. Four master percussionists sing, dance, recite, strike their drums, eager to share with you the richness of ancestral songs and rhythms. The Tambor Y Canto Company is: Simon Bolzinger: artistic direction, piano, arrangements, compositions Rocco Sedano: danse, percussions from Argentina Patinho Axé: songs, percussions from Brazil Julio Molina Perez: songs, percussions from Cuba Daniel Ochoa Licero: songs, percussions from Colombia Olivier Temine: saxophones Willi Quiko: double bass, bass   The Tambor Y Canto Company and Simon Bolzinger: The Tambor Y Canto Company was founded in 2013 in Marseille during the 10th Rencontres festival of the same name. It blends jazz with the many kinds of traditional musics from South America and the Caribbean, under the direction of pianist Simon Bolzinger. Pianist, composer, arranger, Simon Bolzinger has a background in classical and jazz (having trained with Magali Souriau and Guy Longnon), in addition to his scientific career (with Jean-Claude Risset). He is passionate about traditional music from South America and the Caribbean, which he transcribes on piano or rewrites for orchestra, always respecting tradition and striving for authenticity. In 1989 he went to live in Venezuela where he performed for two years. Artistic director of the PICANTE Association in Marseille since 1993, he has organized the "Tambor y Canto Meetings" every year since 2005, as well as international exchanges which then get produced as shows and albums. La Segunda: The blending is done by means of the piano, the saxophone and the double bass competing each in their virtuosity in a back and forth from one country to another, that finally arrives at a new unclassifiable music somewhere between jazz and traditional music, one made up of rhythms of African origin, Amerindian melodies, texts from ancient Europe and contemporary creation. The debut CD "Tambor y Canto" (Picante 2017) took us to Peru in its day. In 2021, "La Segunda" takes us to Colombia. The staple music: Cuba, Brazil and Argentina are always along for the ride. And the caravel sets sail! Escorted by the surdos and timbaos of Bahia on one hand, the batás and shekeres of Havana on the other, the piano leaves Barranquilla and its cumbia for the Quebrada de Humahuaca, where it will dance the carnavalito. The carnival just has to hold steady! Even if it gets cancelled worldwide, the drums are there, ready to be taken out on the street, as Sergio Sampaio sang in 1974. Because the artists in the Tambor y Canto Company also know how to express their views on current events and don’t hesitate when it comes to denouncing the corruption of the political-financial-religious system on this new album.

Horzines Stara present “Bords de Terre – Dubhe”

Horzines Stara will unveil their new album « Bords de Terre - Dubhe » on its digital release May 20, 2022 and physical release June 17, 2022 on Vlad Productions / InOuïe Distribution. This new work will be presented live on stage on Thursday June 30, 2022 at Studio de L’Ermitage (Paris).   « Bords de terre is the sandy beach that ends and welcomes the passage of all borders, the opening of possibilities for migrations and the great stellar void, without firm ground to cling to, without roots to plant. The album aim is to question the borders in all senses, whether they are those of the musical genre, of the structure, of the ages, of the emotions, of the sensations. Duhbe is a constellation and a dreamlike point of view that we want to bring to the world.  With four polyphonic voices supported by acoustic instruments, the traditional style takes hold. By installing evolving melodic-rhythmic loops, the progressive aspect resonates with the traditional. The pop bass of the cello mingles with the mixed melodies of the guitar; the percussion ranging from the djembe to the cave tom ricochets on the rhythmic accents of the bellow shake accordion: Horzines Stara plays with pleasure running from one style to another. The inspiration comes from artists such as Khadja Bonet, Dikanda, Las Lloronas and Fatoumata Diawara. The vocal harmonies, characteristic of the group, affirm this poetic freedom. In our creative process, freedom is paramount. Musical roles are exchanged. We seek to put our relationship with the cycles of life into music. Birth, growth, old age, death, night, dawn, zenith, dusk... Cyclesrepeat themselves and sometimes break. After four years of research, the album Bords de terre - Dubhe was born thanks to a collaboration with Fanny Massière, the studio Zéphirand the label Vlad. It is our musical testimony, our herbarium. » Horzines Stara

Lynn Adib and Marc Buronfosse present “Nearness”

Lynn Adib and Marc Buronfosse will unveil their new album « Nearness » on its digital release May 6 and physical (vinyl) release October 2022 on Arts Culture Europe / InOuïe Distribution. This new work will be presented live on stage on Wednesday June 15, 2022 at Studio de L’Ermitage (Paris).   The duo was born through the summer of 2020 during an improvised and last minute gig on the island of Paros, like a window that suddenly opened in the middle of the pandemic, crystallising the desire to make music for an audience eager for sounds and vibrations. This concert was a memorable moment for the duo, as well as for the audience. The magic worked immediately and convinced them to continue this duo, and later consider this project of a common album. In order to enrich this duo on a few tracks of the record, Lynn and Marc invited other musicians: Jasser Haj Youssef on viola d'amore, Rishab Prasanna on the bansuri flute and Mosin Kawa on tabla, as well as the male choir Antifoniko Melos, one of the most renowned Byzantine choirs in Greece. Lynn and Marc decided to record their duo during the winter of 2021 at the peak of the pandemic. From the start, they wanted to name the album "Nearness", in this climate of confinement and isolation that we were experiencing at the time, where we had the feeling that we were gradually moving away from each other. They started to meet very regularly to build the repertoire of the album: song proposals, tests of compositions, which musicians to invite on the album... From week to week the album took shape thanks to these very intense exchanges. Having no scheduled concerts and tours, they were totally focused on this creation. They decided to record part of the album with an Orthodox choir, as Lynn had learned to sing in the choir of the Orthodox Church in Damascus. It was a dream for her! They contacted the Antifoniko Melos choir from Athens, one of the best Byzantine choirs in Greece, and went to record in June 2021 in a church in Athens, a Byzantine church where the choir sings regularly. Lynn and Marc then asked viola d'amore player Jasser Haj Youssef to be part of the trip. Four tracks were recorded with the choir as well as two trio improvisations that appear on the album. Then in December 2021, we completed the recording of the duo in a studio, in the Paris region, where they recorded eight tracks including one with two Indian master musicians: Rishab Prasanna on the bansuri flute and Mosin Kawa on tabla. Lynn and Marc had set several objectives with the sound of this album: to be close to the other, to touch the soul, to enlarge the space... The voice and the bass combine, the Orient and jazz speak to each other. Here, melody, rhythm and strings, those of the voice, those of the bass, those of the viola d'amore, the bansouri and the tabla. This album will take you on an initiatory journey from the Middle East, particularly Syria, to the West through Greece. From personal compositions sung in Arabic, Syriac and Greek with the Byzantine choir Antifoniko Melos, to two covers of Joni Mitchell and Radiohead, and two jazz standards sung in Arabic and English, the journey ends with a composition by Lynn Adib sung in French.
