Have you heard Valérie Ekoumé sing yet ? It is for those who hear and listen to her an extraordinary experience. Valérie singing is not like some who try to impress an audience by making each note a technical feat. She sings as others speak. She communicates with the public through her art. She has an obvious wish of communion with her audience as she seems to become one with music. Her voice becomes for whoever  hears her, a delicate support guiding one’s emotions to another. From high to low pitched notes this singer’s voice is inhabited by life, her life, echoing ours. Each of us can project one’s own emotions, rift and joys on it. Who is this singer whose tone’s quality  is not just beautiful ? Valérie Ekoumé is a singer whose origins are Camerouneese. Born in France, she grew up in an environnement where music was no foreign langage. She took to music at an early age but was more interested in singing. Retlanlessly whishing to improve her  own skills in singing, she integrated, in 2005, the American School of musicians based in Paris. She studied there for five years. All the while, she accumulated training in improving her vocal expression. This singer has allready collaborated with the work of many famous singers (Youssou Ndour, Alain Barrière, Maceo Parker, Courtney Pine, Passi, MC Solaar, Papa Wemba, Rokia Traoré, Kaissa Doumbe, Etienne Mbappe, Meiway, Kofi Olomide, Coco Mbassi, Lulendo). For eight years, she sang with Manu Dibango in Soul Makossa Gang and in Maraboutik Big Bang. This collaboration abled her to be part of several big festivals accross the world : Cannes Festival, Womad Jazz in Vienna, Ziget and Couleur Café among many. Allthough she spent most of her life in France, Valerie is very attached to Duala, her original language. For her the sound of Duala language expresses music, emotion, and truth which she recognize as hers. She knows that in that language, she does more than sing, since somehow, this is where she really belongs. Valérie presents here « Djaalé », her first album : this is a three years’ work result and  it is  also the collaboration of the singer (Author, composor, and interpreter) with Guy Nwogang (drummer, percussionist , composor) producer of the album. This is excellent news for those who up to now were frustrated to only hear her in small glimpse in other people world and music. This is an Afro-Pop accoustic project. It is in itself, an invitation to explore and travel in different worlds who skirt long one an other, each of them bringing their own specificity in the universal melting pot to which Valérie Ekoumé aims. After the success of his first solo album, Djeli Moussa Conde now presents a tribute to Africa, the continent he hails from, evoked from Paris, the town where he has settled. This special tribute is made of love, nostalgia and acknowledgement. Written on the road during concert tours, the songs on this new album are brimming with the cosmopolitan energy of his musicians. Ils présenteront à cette occasion l’album « La Dame et la Barque» dont la sortie est prévue le 27 avril chez Quart de Lune / UVM (sortie numérique le lundi 23 mars 2015 chez Quart de Lune / Idol). Les artistes seront également en concert le jeudi 26 mars à La Cité Internationale des Arts. « La Dame et la Barque » est un projet de poèmes et de compositions portée par la chanteuse grecque Xanthoula Dakovanou. Après avoir mêlée son chant aux voix turques et bulgares pour les polyphonies balkaniques de « Gaitani » du Trio Tzane (qui a connu un grand succès en France et dans le monde entier), Xanthoula revient pour nous conter cette fois-ci des histoires vocales entre sa Grèce natale et les terres de l’Inde. Le projet est né à Paris, suite à une rencontre avec des musiciens spécialistes de la musique classique indienne (flûte bansuri, sitar, tablas), de l'Afghanistan (rubab) et de l'Iran (percussions). Le santour grec de la virtuose Ourania Lampropoulou accompagne la voix claire de Xanthoula. Le violoncelle s'invite aussi à l'orchestration de cette belle rencontre. Dans cet opus qui est son premier album personnel, la chanteuse explore sa rencontre avec l’Orient. Une rencontre entre les modes et les rythmes communs de la musique traditionnelle grecque et la musique classique indienne ; pleine d'empreintes d'improvisations, marquée par l'élément féminin, lunaire et aquatique. Ever since the beginning, Dupain have always vowed to experiment and resist. To experiment new musical blendings between rock, electro and traditional music. To resist by claiming a plural, cultural and linguistic identity of the common people, involving both protest and poetry. Although he sings in Occitan and accompanies himself on the mandole, Sam Karpienia shows no chauvinism and goes for rebels’ underground domains rather than long-conquered, conventional territories that are all too familiar. This deliberately off-the-beaten-tracks approach has given rise to three dense and singular albums: L’Usina (2000), Camina (2002) and Les Vivants (2005). Today, Sam Karpienia and Pierre-Laurent Bertolino, accompanied by flautist Gurvant Le Gac, drummer François Rossi and bassist Emmanuel Reymond, present “Sòrga“. This is the first album of King Ayisoba with a full band, creating a total new high energy powerful sound with traditional acoustic instruments. This is the traditional music from the future. King Ayisoba is a 21st century songwriter, singing in English, Frafra and Twi, playing all over the world, living in megapolis Accra but never forgetting his Northern Ghanaian roots. King Ayisoba is a big star in Ghana and is ruling the pop charts with his unique and catchy sound. Winning the Ghana music award for best popular song with his big number one hit single “I want to see you my father”, a traditional kologo song, hit all hip life, high life, R+B and hip hop lovers in West Africa with surprise. King Ayisoba is changing the music scene again with this new full length album called “Wicked Leaders” holding no leaves in front of his mouth and addressing all who need to hear what is going on and what is going wrong in Ghana, in Africa and in the world. These songs are not love songs, these are songs with a message inside and it is coming out loud and clear, while standing still is out of the question, so we all better put power in our bodies and move with King Ayisoba. While on tour with his band in Europe in 2013 King Ayisoba decided he wanted his new album recorded with only acoustic traditional instruments to put the energetic live sound on CD and let the whole world hear what traditional music can sound like in the twenty first century. The guluku drums, the percussive sinyaka, the dorgo, the wii (flute) and the kologo are all instruments played in Ghana’s North East region. Only the xylophone is from the North West of Ghana, played by the Dagaaba people. But King Ayisoba heard the young xylophone player called Maxwell Dagati somewhere in Accra playing all the famous King Ayisoba tunes and then asked him to join his band and so made a revolutionary mix of Dagaaba and Frafra instruments. It is typical for the role that King Ayisoba plays in the Ghana music scene. Always crossing borders and bringing people together, modern and traditional, local and international. While on tour with Zea(Netherlands), he worked on a new song called Akolbire and invited Zea to join him on stage. The song was recorded in the Netherlands when the tour was finished. Most of the songs he recorded in Accrawith his long time companion from the Pidgen Music label Panji Annoff, who also mixed a good deal of the songs. Wasla is the name of a particular expression of the musical suite developed by different Arab traditions such as the nuba in North Africaand fasl in Syria. Wasla is a creation developed by Tarek Abdallahproposing to revive the golden age of this musical tradition through a personal approach to the Egyptian musical suite in terms of composition, interpretation and improvisation. Tarek is accompanied by the Egyptian percussionist Adel Shams el Din on the classical Arabtambourine known as riqq. Born in Alexandria in 1975, Tarek Abdallah is a composer and interpretor who draws his inspiration from the golden age of Egyptian art of solo oud (1910-1930) – which is also the main focus of his musicology research work at the University of Lyon. He devotes much of his time to broadcasting knowledge of the Arab lute through courses, masterclasses and workshops, as well as numerous musical creations with various artists. Adel Shams el-Din has been acknowledged as one of the best riqq players of the moment, mastering the most complex Arab rhythms. For this new production specifically inspired by Salonika and Istanbul, Françoise Atlan, Kyriakos Kalaïdjidis and the ensemble En Chordais have replaced the Sephardi music forms of the various Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean Jewish communities in their historical, geographical and cultural context, highlighting the influences of a non-Jewish musical environment on the Jewish musical heritage and showing us how this unique heritage intertwines with the weft of history and the various paths of exiles taken by these communities. The main genres of the Jewish-Spanish repertoire are featured here: romances (medieval ballads), coplas (religious Judaic songs), kantigas (daily life songs) and piyyutim (plural of piyyut – liturgical poems/songs).

The artist Burkinabe Koto Brawa is both drummer, singer and percussionist. Inclined to explore various musical styles, Koto music mixes in his traditional African rhythms (Dagara, Birifor) sounding funk, blues, jazz or even electro. Recognized in Burkina Faso since 1995, he made his debut in several formations. It was recognized by a first solo award for best feature of the French song awarded in 2000 by the Embassy of France in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Her debut album, Meet-IK, released in June 2007 (recorded and mixed at Studio Ouagadougou Dada in Brussels) and acclaimed Burkinabecriticism, took us in a seductive and exotic Afro-beat universe.Then according to his meetings he continues to expand his musical experience and has worked with many artists (Sally Nyolo Gasandji, Yapa, Ryoko Nuruki …). After many concerts in Africa(Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin) and Europe (France, Germany, Poland), it now offers a new show accompanied by “The Wakman” group (the sorcerer in Burkina Faso). A meeting between musicians from different backgrounds, discover on stage. Gueïnto which means “Arise and walk” pays tribute to his second daughter disappeared prematurely. Award-winning, New York-based vocal virtuoso Gino Sitson is originally from the Bamileke region of Cameroon, Central Africa. His family comes from a long line of musicians known as Ntontas(“players of horns”) and his mother is a vocalist and choir director. He and his siblings were introduced to blues, jazz and African traditional music early in life. Mr. Sitson is a pioneer of a new generation of multi-culturally influenced African musicians who are integrating into their musical styles their own exciting yet bewildering welter of “in-between” living experiences (north/south, tradition/modernity, 20th/21st century). His daring musical project combines in a most innovative way jazz, gospel, blues and traditional African polyphonies, polyrhythms and melodies. By freely combining his trademark vocal acrobatics with a breathtakingly creative command of oral and body percussions and miscellaneous effects, Mr. Sitson forged an eloquent vocabulary capable of communicating far beyond any limits of language or custom. Through his vocal wizardry, he stunningly creates an endless range of sounds and atmospheres. Sitson’s seamless four-octave range travels from a soulful, resonantly masculine tenor with woodwind-like overtones to a high-soaring, nearly genderless spiritual wail, a feat that recalls Brazil’s Milton Nascimento, another deep-rooted yet restlessly protean, jazz-inflected shape-changer. Gino Sitson’s four-octave vocal range plus his skills as a composer and arranger put him in high demand for recording sessions and for commercials and radio / television jingles (Danone, Dim, Peugeot, Vahine, etc). The versatile young vocalist performed in a musical and co-composed part of the music (Jeanne et le Garçon Formidable). He has laid down tracks or shared the stage with Manu Dibango, Ron Carter, Papa Wemba, Wally Badarou, John Scofield, Geri Allen, David Gilmore, Haruko Nara, Bobby McFerrin, Frank Wess, Ray Lema, Craig Harris, James Hurt, Antoine Roney, John William, Mario Canonge, Wallace Roney, Brice Wassy, Oliver NGoma, Exile One, Steve Potts, So Why? (Featuring Youssou NDour, Papa Wemba, Wally Badarou, Jabu Khanyile & Bayete, Lourdes Van-Dunem, and Lucky Dube) and La Compagnie Creole, among others. Since 2006, Mr. Sitson is a Cultural Arts ambassador for the city of Miami (Florida). Meanwhile, his international career continues apace. He has received the “Parents Choice Silver Medal Honor Award” in 2004 and was nominated for the RFI Awards 2000 (Finalist “Decouvertes RFI” 2000). His recent output includes soundtracks to Betrayal (Kevin Ngooh), Blue Lotus (Dayo Ayodele) and Koming from Afrika (Blaise-Christian Sitchet); jingles for France Television and France 3. Mr. Sitson performed at the Carnegie Hall with his own group in 2008. Aside from musical performances, Gino leads vocal workshops served by his amazing vocal technique, his musical knowledge and his desire to share his love for vocal explorations. Gino has developed workshops for professional as well as non-professional singers, and also for children. A researcher in musicology, his work focuses on music cognition, expressive properties of the voice and the process of transmitting music from the “black” diaspora. Among them, he is particularly interested in Gwoka music from Guadeloupe. Mr Sitson earned a PhD in musicology at the Paris-Sorbonne University.
